Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and the choices you have — in plain English, because what we do with your data is simple.

Effective date: 27 July 2026

Greater Manchester Vis ("we", "us") is a community group for blind and partially sighted people across Greater Manchester, run under our constitution. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, and the choices you have. We keep it deliberately simple — because what we do with your data is simple.

1. What we collect

  • Enquiry and newsletter forms — the details you type: your name, contact details, your message, and any accessibility or support needs you choose to share so we can welcome you properly.
  • Photos and videos — taken at our sessions and events with consent, some of which appear in our gallery and news pages.
  • Technical basics — our hosting infrastructure keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the site secure and running. We do not use them to identify visitors.

2. What we never do

  • No analytics or advertising trackers on this site.
  • We never sell, rent or trade your information.
  • We only email you about the club, and only if you asked us to.

3. How the forms work

Our enquiry and newsletter forms are delivered by Web3Forms, a form-relay service that passes your submission to our club email inbox and does not keep your message as a stored database of contacts. From there, your message is handled by our volunteers.

4. Settings stored on your device

If you use the accessibility toolbar (text size, contrast, dyslexia-friendly font, reduced motion), your preferences are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device only. They never leave your device and you can clear them at any time with the toolbar's reset button or your browser settings.

5. Fonts

Our typefaces load from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, Google receives the technical request (including your IP address). You can read more in Google's privacy policy.

6. Photos of our members

We only publish photos and videos where the people featured have given consent. If a photo of you appears on this site and you would like it removed, tell us and we will take it down promptly — no questions, no fuss.

7. How long we keep things

Enquiries are kept only as long as needed to help you and to run the club, then deleted. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Published photos stay up until consent is withdrawn.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Just email us — we aim to reply within two working days. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can share a concern with us, or contact the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

9. Contact

Questions about this policy or your data: hello@gmvis.org.uk or 0161 123 4567.

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above.
